Agent or Broker?
What's the Difference?

Do you have an Insurance Agent or Broker?
What's the difference and how could this affect your business?
The key difference between an Agent and a Broker is this:
Who is being represented?
The Big Difference
"Are they representing you? Or, are they representing an Insurance Company?"
Insurance Agents represent an Insurance Company and only offer and sell their company’s brand of insurance to customers.

Example: A State Farm Agent sells State Farm insurance. If State Farm doesn't offer the insurance you're looking for, usually they find an Insurance Broker who sells it and then mark up the price.

Insurance Brokers represent the customer and shop with many different insurance companies on behalf of the customer.

Example: Advantage is a brokerage which maintains relationships with dozens of insurance companies, and works for its customers to find which of these companies has the right coverage at the best price to satisfy the needs of an individual customer.

The license required to become an Agent or a Broker is the same. An Agent may work for an agency or a brokerage.

But, what distinguishes a Broker from an Agent is: who's represented?

Are they representing you? Or, are they representing an Insurance Company?
